Quick-Thinking Couple Honk Their Way To Heroism During Texas Flood

A Minnesota couple is being praised for their heroic actions during the deadly July 4th floods in central Texas. Lyle and Sue Glenna, seasonal workers at a campground near the Guadalupe River, helped save lives by using their truck horn to warn others as floodwaters quickly rose.

In just a few hours, a month’s worth of rain caused the river to surge 26 feet, washing away homes, cars, and campsites. Over 100 people died in the disaster. As the campground flooded in under 10 minutes, Lyle and Sue chose not to focus only on their own escape — instead, they drove around honking their horn to wake sleeping campers and give them precious minutes to flee.

“They definitely helped people make it out,” said their son, Wes Glenna. A GoFundMe page set up in their name confirmed they likely saved many lives through their quick thinking and selfless actions.

The couple lost everything in the flood and fled with just their truck and the clothes they were wearing. Lyle also suffered a heart attack from the stress but is expected to recover. He was discharged from the hospital after receiving a new CPAP machine — paid for through community donations.

So far, over $24,000 has been raised to support their recovery and rebuilding efforts. While insurance outcomes are still uncertain, the donations are already helping them start over.
