While pursuing criminals in the woods, Officer Cole Hunter was attacked and hit in the head, causing him to lose consciousness. At the same time, his loyal dog Rex chased after one of the attackers, who was holding a knife and ready to stab Cole. Despite being injured himself, Rex grabbed the man’s arm firmly and refused to let go until the attacker finally fled deeper into the forest.
Rex then led two police officers to where Cole lay unconscious. Cole was rushed to the hospital with a major skull fracture and internal bleeding. He fell into a coma, and Rex stayed close by, even when he was not allowed inside the intensive care unit.

Rex barked loudly and scratched at the caregiver’s door until she woke up and called 911. Emergency workers arrived quickly, and although Cole seemed dead and was given CPR, Rex refused to accept it. He growled and barked, keeping the doctors away.
Then, just moments later, Cole began coughing—he was still alive. Doctors described this as the rare “Lazarus effect,” where a patient’s heart restarts after CPR has been stopped. While everyone else had lost hope, Rex’s loyalty and belief in his owner’s survival never wavered. Even the doctors could not explain the miracle Rex sensed.
