Barack Obama tells Democrats to ‘stop looking for messiah’ and ‘toughen up’ against Trump

RED BANK, NEW JERSEY: Former President Barack Obama has expressed his frustration with disillusioned Democrats who are “whining” like infants.

The 63-year-old ex-president recently took the opportunity to provide straightforward counsel to his fellow Democrats, urging them to “toughen up” and start taking action to “defend the principles that you believe in.”

“I believe it will necessitate a bit less introspection and a bit less complaining and adopting a fetal position. It will require Democrats to simply toughen up,” Obama stated during a fundraising event hosted by New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy and his spouse, Tammy Murphy, at their residence in Red Bank, New Jersey, on Friday, July 11.

The fundraiser, characterized as an ‘intimate dinner’, garnered $2.5 million for the Democratic National Committee through both in-person and online contributions, a source informed CNN.

Barack Obama encourages Democrats to advocate for free speech.

During the fundraising event, the Democratic leader claimed that he is not “surprised by Trump’s actions” nor by the absence of “guardrails within the Republican Party.”

“What has surprised me is the extent to which I’ve observed individuals who, during my presidency… stood for various causes, now appear to be cowed, intimidated, and retreating from simply asserting their beliefs, or at least what they professed to believe,” Obama remarked.

He also urged the prominent figures to defend “free speech when it’s challenging.” “When someone expresses an opinion that you disagree with, you should still assert, ‘You know what, that individual has the right to express themselves,’” he emphasized.

In addressing the absence of decisive leadership within the party, Obama even implored Democrats to “cease searching for a messiah” and to recognize the “excellent candidates currently running for office.”

The 44th president further contended that the forthcoming off-year elections in New Jersey and Virginia, widely regarded as indicators for the midterms, could offer “a significant boost for our future direction.”

Barack Obama addresses the ideological divide within the party

Barack Obama also commented on the internal conflicts within the party, highlighting the disagreement between its far-left faction and the moderates who support the “abundance agenda,” which focuses on reducing government regulations to increase supply.

“There has been, as I understand, some contention between the left side of the party and those advocating for the so-called abundance agenda. Understand this: these positions are not mutually exclusive. If you aim to improve people’s lives, you must find a way to achieve that,” Obama emphasized.

“I am not interested in your ideology, as it does not contribute to building anything. It is irrelevant,” he added.

In recent months, Democrats have been clashing over strategies to counter the Republicans. For instance, the DNC has faced criticism due to former vice chair David Hogg’s initiative to interfere in party primaries to support more assertive candidates.

Barack Obama’s candid remarks ignite online discussions

Barack Obama’s straightforward counsel to Democrats has generated considerable online discussion, with many expressing admiration for the former president.

“It is difficult to exaggerate what a tool Obama is (and has always been),” one user remarked.

“What former President Obama intended to convey is to disregard ‘When they go low, we go high.’ That saying, reiterated by the former first lady, belongs to a bygone era,” a second user noted.

“Obama understands. He also recognizes that the leader cannot be him (or his wife). It must be someone younger, capable of articulating the myriad issues facing the country, who can energize the populace, and who can connect and empathize,” another user stated.

One individual commented, “What an absolute legend.”

Conversely, several internet users criticized the disheartened Democrats.

“Well, it’s about time! Every official who observes the current situation should adopt a firm stance. President Bush serves as a good example. People require strong leaders at this moment. If we unite, we will prevail. However, we need resilient, assertive leaders to guide us,” a user proposed.

Another individual remarked, “Democrats must cease aligning with the incorrect side of every 80/20 issue.”

“Toughen up? Laugh out loud! That is not going to occur,” another individual ridiculed.

“It will necessitate common sense. That is unlikely to happen,” one user sarcastically commented.

“Courage? Nonsense, Democrats require common sense,” another person stated.
