Texas Father Dies Protecting Family During Flood
Severe flash floods struck Texas on July 4, leading to a state of emergency in several counties. The Guadalupe River quickly rose to 26 feet after hours of intense rainfall, causing widespread damage. Authorities reported that at least 50 people, including children, lost their lives.
In Kerr County, one of the most affected areas, 27-year-old Julian Ryan tragically passed away while helping his family escape rising waters. Early that morning, Julian, his fiancée Christina Wilson, their two young children, and his mother were inside their home in Ingram when the floodwaters began to rise.
Julian took action to help his loved ones reach safety. According to Christina, he was injured while creating a way for them to escape. By 6 a.m., despite his efforts, he became unresponsive. Before that, he reportedly told his family, “I love y’all,” showing his deep care and courage.
His family later found him after the waters receded. Christina and his mother described Julian as a true hero who put his family first.
In response to the disaster, state and local officials deployed rescue teams, high-water vehicles, helicopters, and emergency personnel. Texas Governor Greg Abbott promised full support for those affected, and national leaders have expressed their concern and commitment to help the state recover.
The family of Julian Ryan has called for improved flood warning systems to help prevent future tragedies and save lives.
