Trump’s unexpected message to Renee Good’s father after fatal ICE shooting

At the same time, Renee is being mourned by much of the country, her wife, her children, and other loved ones.

Renee’s former father‑in‑law told NBC that he always had a good relationship with her and remembered her as “outgoing” and “a real good person.”

Trump’s message
Her death last Wednesday has been “really hard” on the family, Tim Macklin Sr. told reporters.  Macklin explained that Good and his son, Tim Macklin Jr., were married for about five years before they separated. They shared a 6‑year‑old son, one of her three children. Macklin Jr. died in 2023 at age 36, according to an online obituary.

The elder Macklin, a preacher from Knoxville, said he stayed in touch with Good over the years and that she would often bring his grandson to visit.

“I think she’s a great person,” he said, reflecting on her life and the family’s loss.

Spoke with the father
On Tuesday, CBS Evening News anchor Tony Dokoupil told President Trump that he had spoken with Renee Good’s father — and was surprised to learn he is a Republican and a supporter of the president, despite the administration’s stance on the Minneapolis shooting.

“I’ve been speaking to her father, who is a big supporter of yours, like many Americans are, but he’s heartbroken right now,” Dokoupil said during the interview, noting the father’s pain over both his daughter’s death and the administration’s quick labeling of her as a “domestic terrorist.”

“Well, I want to say to the father that I love all of our people,” Trump replied. “They can be on the other side, as you say, he might be on my side. And I think that’s great.”

“And I would bet you that she, under normal circumstances, was a very solid, wonderful person,” Trump added of Good, before calling her actions “pretty tough.”

When asked whether deadly force should have been used, Trump also spoke about Renee’s wife, Becca Good:

“The woman and her friend were highly disrespectful of law enforcement. Law enforcement should not be in a position where they have to put up with this stuff.”

He went on to call Renee and her wife’s actions “outrageous.”

Supports Trump
On Tuesday, speaking to CNN’s Erin Burnett OutFront, Macklin made it clear he also supports Trump but added that he felt the situation surrounding Renee Good’s death was “hard for everybody involved.”

“I’m not blaming anybody,” Macklin said. “I mean, the ICE agent, you know, at first I didn‘t see the footage where… he was actually being rammed. I mean, I‘ve seen the bumper of the car hitting his legs. And so in a flash like that, it‘s hard to say how you would react.”
