Tragic Loss: Young Israeli Couple Killed in D.C. Shooting

Yaron Lischinsky, 30, and Sarah Milgrim, 26, were young, in love, and just days away from getting engaged. Yaron had already bought a ring and planned to propose in Jerusalem next week. But the couple was fatally shot outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C., after attending a diplomatic event.

The attacker, Elias Rodriguez, reportedly shouted “Free Palestine” during his arrest. Both victims worked at Israel’s embassy in D.C. — Yaron in diplomacy and Sarah in public outreach. Their deaths have deeply shaken the embassy and Jewish diplomatic circles.

The Israeli embassy confirmed their identities, calling them “dedicated, compassionate, and committed to peace.” A close colleague mourned: “Instead of walking you down the aisle, we are walking with you to your graves.”

Yaron, a supporter of interfaith dialogue and the Abraham Accords, had moved to D.C. in 2022. Sarah, who joined the embassy in late 2023, previously worked for Tech2Peace, an organization promoting dialogue between Israelis and Palestinians. Her former employer described her as deeply empathetic and driven by unity.

The couple had recently met Israeli President Isaac Herzog, who called them “flowers of our people” taken too soon. Israeli officials confirmed Yaron had planned to propose in the coming days — turning what was meant to be a symbol of love into a heartbreaking reminder of their loss.
