Lindsey Vonn has announced a final decision on her Winter Olympics skiing career following the devastating injury.
Vonn, 41, suffered a catastrophic injury at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. She suffered a devastating leg injury during the women’s downhill. Vonn had to be airlifted off of the course and she was eventually hospitalized. Vonn has returned to the United States, where she underwent surgery.
The iconic U.S. Winter Olympian has already been making good progress.
“Guys…. I’m biking!! Starting with 5 minutes… making progress one day at a time 💪🏻,” she wrote.
Many have been calling for Vonn to call it a career. She’s in her 40s and she’s undergone several catastrophic injuries.
But Vonn has made it clear: she won’t be retiring.
Vonn went back-and-forth with an account that was speculating about her retirement from the sport.
“Who said I was retiring?” she wrote.
One fan replied: “The ego is so strong with this one. Take your medicine Lindsey. You nearly lost your leg. Put your feet up and be done.”
Vonn, meanwhile, made it clear: she’s not retiring.
“[I] think you’re mistaking my ego for joy. I’ve said it my whole life; I love skiing. I’ll put my feet up when I’m good and ready thank you.”

Vonn has been encouraged by her recovery process
Vonn has been hopeful.
“Home sweet home. Feels good to sleep in my own bed… but wheeling through the front door without Leo greeting me like always was a very hard reality. A reality I had to face. Along with many other hard realities that lay in front of me as I move forward….” she wrote on Instagram.
“I’m focused now on therapy and getting healthy. It’s going to be a hard and painful journey but I am putting all of my energy into it, like I always do. I’m going to take some time for myself. I’ll give you updates when I can but right now my focus is on taking care of myself.
“As always, thank you for the love and support. ❤️🙏🏻”
Hopefully, we’ll see her back soon.
