Former President Donald Trump authorized a major strike on Iran, using twelve 30,000-pound GBU-57 “bunker buster” bombs to destroy the deeply buried Fordow nuclear site. Thirty Tomahawk missiles, launched from U.S. submarines, also hit other nuclear facilities.
Fox News’ Sean Hannity was the first to reveal details, saying Trump officials confirmed Fordow was “gone.” A U.S. military source later verified the site was “taken off the table.”
The bombs were dropped by twelve B-2 stealth bombers, which flew a 37-hour mission from Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri. This marked the first use of the GBU-57 in combat. The bomb can penetrate over 200 feet underground before detonating, designed specifically for hardened bunkers.
Israel had already disabled Iranian air defenses and requested U.S. support to target Fordow. Trump reportedly decided to act after Iran refused to abandon its nuclear program.
Iran has threatened retaliation. Supreme Leader Khamenei warned of “irreparable damage” to the U.S., and an Iranian spokesperson said American involvement could trigger a regional war.
